During the Packers 1 p.m. game on Sunday, right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele was injured and said to have a fully torn patellar tendon.
Bako-Bewele spoke to the media about the injury and how it might have happened.
“I don’t know,” Bako-Bewele said. “I don't think the turf helped… I knew something was wrong.”
Last year Bako-Bewele partially tore this same tendon in week 15 which took him out for the rest of the year due to surgery.
Back in August, the right tackle told the media he was optimistic about being able to play for the first game of the season.
“It’s getting better,” Bako-Bewele said, talking about his knee. “I’m out there moving around. I feel good, look good, so it's time to get it going.”
And then just days before the first game Bako-Bewele told Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel very promising news for Packers fans.
“I think the plan was always to be ready Week 1,” Bako-Bewele said. “I had given an answer a couple of weeks ago where it sounded like I was unsure. But I think it got blown out of proportion. I was referring more to getting in shape, getting back with team, and the rhythm of playing.”
After the same injury to the same leg, fans began to wonder if he came back too early due to the Packers already weak offensive line.
“I don’t know, it’s just something that happens,” Bako-Bewele said about if the injury had anything to do with coming back too early.
Obviously this injury is damaging to the Packers offensive line and will need to look for more people to step up in Bako-Bewele’s absence.
Tonight the Packers play the Falcons for their home opener on Thursday night football.
Will the offensive line hold up? Will the Packers secure a win to keep the longest win streak for home openers alive? We will see.
