After Jayden Reed was injured in the week 2 game against the Jets it has been now said he will undergo a season-ending neck surgery.
Yesterday, head coach Matt LaFleur spoke to the press about the injury and gave them the bad news.
“It will be a season-ending. He will be out unfortunately,” LaFleur said. “He let me know yesterday, he’s going to have to get surgery as well.”
Jayden Reed was one of the Packers most trusted receivers and was ready for a breakout season with fellow receivers Christian Watson and Matthew Golden.
“He wants to be out there and compete,” LaFleur said about Reed. “He’s an energy guy and he will certainly be missed.”
On the play Reed was injured, a stretcher was needed to get him off of the field and he was carted off. When being put on the stretcher his teammates surrounded him while he was being taken off the field. LaFleur talked about how scary this moment was for him and the rest of the team.
“When I was out there with them and just seeing what was going on, it kind of, it shocks you,” LaFleur said. “Jolts you a bit because you never want to see anybody in that position, let alone one of your own guys.”
LaFleur mentions the hit Reed’s absence will take to the locker room. One of the teammates who spoke out about this was fellow wide receiver Christian Watson.
“That’s super tough,” Watson said. “My first thought for him is just to make sure he is okay as a man outside of football and everything.”
In a season-ending injury like this one would assume it is hard for someone to keep their hopes high and have good spirits. Watson spoke on the importance of good spirits and how hard it can be.
“That’s a tough situation for anybody to be going through, regardless of how long you are out for,” Watson said. “He definitely seems like he’s in as good spirits as you can be for the situations that he is in.”
Another big star for the Packers offense is feeling the loss after the news of Reed’s season-ending surgery. Jordan Love talked to the media this morning on his thoughts on the situation.
“Man, we will be definitely missing J-Reed [Jayden Reed],” Love said. “He is a one-of-one. He is a big time player holding down the slot position for us. He does so many great things.
“I think everybody was devastated after the injury to him… I think everybody's glad to hear that he’s doing okay.”
In the absence of Reed the Packers need someone to step up for the slot position. Thankfully, Packers new special team and receiver Skyy Moore seems to have the best capabilities to step in for Jayden Reed. Moore technically beats out Reed on his speed when comparing both of their 40-yard dashes in their combine. Reed with 4.45 seconds in 2023 and Moore with 4.41 seconds in 2022. Reed being known as the Packers speedster sets Skyy Moore with a great opportunity to show off his speed as well.
As the Packers prepare for the week 4 game against the Buccaneers, Skyy Moore is someone to see more playing time and might help the Packers in their rough start to the year.
