PACKERS RELEASE BO MELTON?
You have read the title correctly. A few hours ago the Packers released wide receiver Bo Melton. This Rutgers alum has been on the Packers since 2023 playing both cornerback and was permanently for this year a wide receiver. Melton became one of the Packers trusted wide receivers last year with the many injuries to the receiver room. He had also become a fan favorite in terms of social media presence with that Packers social media team.
Now, Packers fans do not fret. Immediately after releasing the wide receiver the Packers signed him again on to the practice squad and will probably be elevated before the game on Sunday to be active. You may be asking yourself, why do all of that just to resign him again? Well, releasing and quickly resigning Melton gives the Packers more money and increases the salary cap for the rest of the roster while also not changing Melton’s long term contract.
With this increased salary cap the Packers have plenty of options with what they can do with this. Packers fans hope that this means the well awaited contract extension for the tight end Tucker Kraft will happen. Fans expect this contract to be a big one considering the amount of production Kraft did for the Packers last season before getting injured. Or, if Melton isn’t elevated off the practice squad it leaves an open roster spot with money if the Packers want to make a move and trade.
